My favorite Perfumes

6 Dec

This is my last post for this blog and now that I have talked about everything there is to talk about on perfume, I now want to share my favorite perfumes. I’ve been mentioning some of them in previous posts, but mostly I have been mentioning popular perfumes around the web. So here is my list:

ALL TIME FAVORITE: Marc Jacobs ‘Daisy’

I remember trying this perfume at the mall and spraying it all over, not sure if I liked it. The next day, I put on the jacket I was wearing and it smelled delicious. I had to have this perfume and out of all the perfumes I have owned this is my all time favorite scent. You can’t get wrong with this one. Continue reading

Best and Worst Celebrity Perfumes

3 Dec

One of the worst smelling celebrity perfumes would have to be ‘White Diamonds’ by Elizabeth Taylor. It smells like something old people would wear. It is not refreshing but rather way too strong and overpowering. Continue reading

Perfume Bottles

1 Dec

There are lots of people that collect perfume bottles, myself included. I have kept every perfume bottle of every perfume that I have owned. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I collect them, but I do like to keep them. There are sites out there that are devoted to people who like to collect and they sell for a couple hundred bucks. Can’t decide on a Perfume?

30 Nov

Everyone sometimes has trouble choosing a perfume because let’s face it: there are way to many options out there, and they keep coming out with new fragrances every month. As I’m browsing the Sephora website I saw that they have these exclusive sampler sets. The set on the right includes ten best selling fragrances from Sephora like Juicy Couture and Dior. This set costs $75 and the best part about it is that it includes a voucher for a full size perfume. Continue reading

Ways to get FREE Samples

29 Nov

One way to get free samples is to go into a store like Macy’s or Sephora and ask them to give you sample of a perfume of you choice. Most likely they will fill up a little sampler tube and write down the name for you. As mentioned in an earlier post you can’t keep coming back for samples without buying anything as the sale associates will probably catch onto what you are doing. Continue reading

Perfume Ad Banned

23 Nov

Talking a bit more about perfume ads, I want to focus on the recent ad that was pulled in the UK.

This is the ad, the perfume is by Marc Jacobs and it features teen actress Dakota Fanning. They say that this ad resembles more teen porn than teen chic, just because she is resting the rather large floral perfume bottle in between her legs. I on the other hand don’t find this ad sexual at all. She is fully dressed, her facial expression is Continue reading

Perfume Print Ads

20 Nov

Almost all magazine and print ads for perfume have a famous person as their spokesperson, or the perfume is actually created by them. I’m not sure if this is supposed to entice the consumer to buy these products but I have noticed the huge similarities that all perfumes have. Continue reading

Perfume- The Story of a Murderer.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (film)Perfume

When thinking about books and movies that focuses on perfume, only one book comes to mind. I read this a couple years ago in it’s original language. The book is called “Perfume- Story of a Murderer“, while the original book is written in German and is called “Das Parfum“. The movie came out a year after I finished reading the book, but of course the film did the book no justice. The whole book focuses on you using your sense of smell, like the main character does. Chanel Names their New Perfume ‘Jersey’

5 Nov

When I hear the word ‘Jersey‘, I automatically think about Jersey Shore, a show about Americanized Italians that like to fist pump and get drunk every night. There is nothing classy about this show at all, but when I think about Chanel that is the first thing that pops into my mind: classy! So I find it kind of odd that they would name their new Perfume “Jersey”. It is described as “relaxed chic with a dash of liberation.” Continue reading

The Making of Perfume Video

20 Oct

Just a little video on how perfume is created:

The Making of Perfume

13 Oct

The Perfume Maker by Ernst Rodolphe

Perfume used to be made from only natural ingredients such as flowers, grasses and spices as well as animal products and oils that make the scent last longer by emitting the scent more slowly. Today there are a lot of synthetic perfumes that use chemicals made up in a lab to substitute for example the animal products. Continue reading

Ways to make your Perfume last [part 2]

28 Sep

6. Don’t spray perfume on top of clothes, always apply before getting dressed.

7. Instead of spraying your hair, spray your hair brush and lightly brush your hair with it.

8. To achieve extra moisture, rub Vaseline on your pulse points. Doing so will make the scent stick better to your skin.

9. To distribute the scent over your entire body, spray perfume in the air and walk through it.

10. Place perfume infused cotton balls in your bra instead of spraying directly on the skin where swear and irritation can occur.

Purchasing Perfume as a Gift

25 Sep

Everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to fragrances. Never purchase a perfume just because you like it. Just because you are more drawn to a fragrance, doesn’t mean your loved ones are too. If you know the type of perfume your loved one wears, the easier your purchase will be. Pay attention in case they have mentioned a certain perfume in the past. Also make sure what perfume category she likes. Does she like floral scents or muskier scents? Continue reading

Ways to make your Perfume last [Part 1]

23 Sep

1. Layer your fragrance. Start in the shower with shower gel, preferably one that matches your perfume.

2. Pulse Points are very important when applying perfume, they are areas on your body, like the temples or the bend of the elbow that produce heat.

3. Always apply lotion before applying perfume, because dry skin makes the perfume evaporate quicker.

4. Don’t rub your wrists together if you have sprayed perfume on them. Doing so will only compress the scent instead of allowing the scent to develop naturally with your own body chemistry.

5. The best time to put on perfume is after a shower.

History of Perfume

19 Sep

Definition of Perfume- A pleasing, agreeable scent or odor.

The word perfume comes from the Latin word ‘Parfumare’- to fill with smoke. In the old days people would light incense and aromatic herbs for a pleasant scent during religious rituals.

Ancient Egyptian Perfume Bottle

The Egyptians were the first to use perfume for personal uses by wearing hats with wax on top with perfume inside, and the wax would melt during the day because of the heat and would make a woman smell good all day long. They were also the first people to invent glass and later on perfume bottles. When the Greeks fell in love with the Egyptian fragrances, they invented the first liquid perfume made out of fragrant powder and heavy oils. The Romans bathed up to three times a day in fragrant oils and even bathed their dogs and horses in them. After the Roman Empire fell and Christianity rose, the use of perfume decreased dramatically. Attract Men & Look Younger

6 Sep

According to the “Early Show” there is a perfume out there that is clinically-proven to attract men and make them flirt with you. The name of the perfume? Eau Flirt by Harvey Prince. They have used scientific proven key scents, such as pumpkin and lavender to lure men in. A smell test conducted by CBS said that it beat Chanel No. 5. And while doing a product search on Google, the description reads that this is the first anti-aging perfume for women. So using this perfume will not only make you appear younger but it will also make men flirt with you. I say nice advertising campaign.

Smell, Memory and Perfume

31 Aug

Certain smells can bring up different kinds of memories of the past and can even trigger your mood. When you first encounter a new smell your brain links it to specific person, place or event. So when you cross paths with that same smell again your brain automatically links it back to the first encounter, whether good or bad. Since you form your own links to different smells, not every smell might bring up a pleasant memory, which is why not everyone likes the same smells. Continue reading

Smell the World

There are many odor particles floating around in the air.  Our brain can detect seven primary odors, two of them being musky and floral, and both can be sniffed in the topic of this blog: Perfume!
