Perfume Ad Banned

23 Nov

Talking a bit more about perfume ads, I want to focus on the recent ad that was pulled in the UK.

This is the ad, the perfume is by Marc Jacobs and it features teen actress Dakota Fanning. They say that this ad resembles more teen porn than teen chic, just because she is resting the rather large floral perfume bottle in between her legs. I on the other hand don’t find this ad sexual at all. She is fully dressed, her facial expression is relaxed and it not suggestive at all. It’s funny that they pull an ad like this from Calvin Klein. This is way more provocative than Marc Jacob’s ad. I mean I understand that Dakota Fanning is not yet 18, she is 17 years old, but the fact that she is fully dressed and is not making any sexual expressions, should be enough to not ban this ad. I feel like when Miley Cyrus posed nude for Vanity, that should have never been printed, but they still did. On top of that it got printed in the U.S. I feel like Europe is way more sexually open, and nudity has never been an issue, so I’m really surprised that the UK pulled this ad.
